Description

The W5500 Ethernet Expansion Board, the latest addition to the DFRobot Ethernet family. This compact board combines the power of PoE (Power over Ethernet) supply and the W5500 Ethernet chip, making it ideal for a wide range of IoT projects.

The W5500 chip is a highly efficient TCP/IP embedded Ethernet controller, designed to simplify internet connectivity for embedded systems. With this single chip, users can easily add internet capabilities to their applications, as it integrates a TCP/IP stack, 10/100 Ethernet MAC, and PHY. Leveraging the proven Hardwired TCP/IP technology, the W5500 supports various protocols such as TCP, UDP, IPv4, ICMP, ARP, IGMP, and PPPoE. Additionally, it incorporates a 32Kbyte internal memory buffer dedicated to Ethernet packet processing, ensuring fast and efficient data transfer. Compared to other embedded Ethernet solutions, the W5500 offers a quicker and more straightforward approach. Furthermore, its SPI interface supports speeds up to 80MHz and utilizes a new efficient SPI protocol for high-speed network communication. To optimize power consumption, the W5500 includes features like Wake on LAN (WOL) and a power-down mode.

Designed with the same dimensions as the Arduino UNO, the W5500 Ethernet expansion board is fully compatible with the IEEE 802.3at standard for Power over Ethernet. It adheres to the POE Class 0 power classification and provides a MicroSD card socket, two standard Gravity-4Pin I2C ports, one UART, four Gravity-3Pin digital ports, and four analog ports, among other interfaces. Notably, it offers functional compatibility with the Arduino Ethernet Shield 2, allowing users to seamlessly transition between the two.

In summary, the W5500 Ethernet expansion board combines PoE power supply and the W5500 Ethernet chip to fulfill the requirements of general IoT projects. With its compact size, versatile interfaces, and robust TCP/IP functionality, it serves as an excellent solution for adding internet connectivity to embedded systems and facilitating efficient data transfer.
